GETHENS by LL, LLC
321 Gallery, Brooklyn, NY
October 15 - November 25, 2015
For this exhibition, Lowenthal debuts the GETHENS collection, a series of wearable objects tenuously described as jewelry. Unlike traditional accessories, these pieces are designed to be balanced on particular points on the body, however precariously. Inspired by theoretical and actual systems—including Lacan’s diagrams of subjective experience, layouts for public water supply, and unrealized patents for display apparatuses—Lowenthal’s designs consider various forms of perception, projection, and public connectivity.
The exhibition elaborates on the idea of a traditional trunk show, taking place in the parlour room of 321 Washington Avenue, a 19th century Brooklyn brownstone. GETHENS by LL, LLC is accompanied by a lookbook containing photographs of the collection’s various designs. Special thanks go to Melinda Faylor and the Terna/Shiffman family.
